The City moved quickly to turn the newly filled lake and surrounding land into the community destination envisioned in its master plan.

City employees stabilized and graded the shoreline, constructed roads and sidewalks, built the approximately two-mile recreational path, brought in truckloads of sand, and developed the park's many amenities.

Hundreds of City employees contributed to the effort, with major leadership from City Manager Terry Reynolds, Public Works Director Shaun Carey, and Parks Director Stan Sherer.

What had once been an industrial gravel pit was becoming a place built around recreation, families, and community life.
